The Ambiguous Reality of Life — Struggle, Balance, and the Tools to Navigate Both

Thorns are attached to a rose bush. A banana is covered with its peel. Coconut water is healthy, but it sits at the top of a tall tree — and even then, it is hard to open and get to. Honey is packed with great security by the honeybees. Diamonds and pearls lie deep in oceans and mountains. A bird lays its eggs on a windy tree. A boat sails on a wavering sea.

Nature — and the human, as part of nature — goes through turmoil, both natural and man-made. There is no escape from these realities of life for any one of us born onto this planet.

And yet, the hope is this: there is survival — with vitality, bio-electricity, creativity, and productivity. No matter the extent of destruction, devastation, deformation, or deterioration, the contrary forces also exist: formation, motivation, creation, and reformation. If passivity is a reality, so is activity with free choice. If hopelessness can emerge, so can hope.

The struggle is not the exception. It is the condition. What we do within it — that is where life is made.

Practical Anchors — Tools for Navigating Life's Odds

These are not grand solutions. They are quiet, steady tools.

Faith Faith helps grow new leaves on the tree of life. It has the power to subordinate hardships and generate the motivation to rebuild. Blame, criticism, and setbacks — which can be deeply draining — become milestones of progress through the element of faith. No devastation is an end. It is a turn that comes in life. Faith, standing at that turn, is a source of force that assists the journey ahead.

Patience Patience gives space and time to a situation. It helps hold back reflexive reaction and cools the temper that keeps boiling. With patience, peaceful transition becomes natural — and transformation follows.

Perception When things are at their worst, simply observe and be with them. They will reveal new meanings, and sometimes open up novel elements that one may miss while being occupied with expected outcomes. Observing — being watchful — is a profound way to disclose what a moment truly holds.

Study Keep oneself engaged in studying: self-help books, modern research in one's own field, life skills, religious and philosophical traditions. Learning, in any form, is a form of forward motion.

Silence Silence your inner noise. Practice it with intention, until it becomes your nature. Arrange your day so that a small part is secured for natural silence. Words and language offer limited access to the world — silence offers infinite access. The silent giver gives abundantly; the silent receiver unfolds treasure, provided one is a mindful and unconditional receiver.

Smile Do not forget to smile. It can be an astonishing answer to even the toughest question. Make it sincere — for yourself and for others. Maintain peace, tolerance, dignity, care, and love.

Social Skills Unite. Come together in small things to make life a little simpler and more harmonious. We can unite in shared practices, food, conversation, and the occasional walk. Our commonalities are far greater than our differences.

Resistance Life requires various tools to handle challenges — both personal and structural. On a personal level, temptations and harmful inclinations can emerge. A strong mindset is needed to resist them, ideally before they surface explicitly. Taking small resolutions builds a wall of resistance against negative forces.

On a structural level, silence and letting go can help at times — but active resistance is often more necessary. It requires the courage to speak, paired always with equanimity rather than hatred or ego. Fearlessness paired with equanimity is the right posture for structural defense and change. A careful, hermeneutical approach to understanding problems assists in developing strategies that can enhance growth and smoothness over time.

Trust Trust may feel deceiving at times. Even so, unconditional trust fosters healthy actions, joyful moods, and better relationships. Trust begins at a primary level and deepens through small exchanges — thoughts, messages, shared moments. Trusting with purity tends to draw trust in return.

Sometimes, even a first encounter carries the weight of trust. When someone, in their very first meeting with you, shares something real rather than offering a formal pleasantry — that act alone can begin a U-turn in life's odds. A small difference can break an entire trajectory of negativity. Anything in life is doable through trust and perseverance. When both are firmly in place, everything else becomes easier to master. Nothing in this world is worth the cost of your peace. Live simply. Be at peace.

Leave In times of difficulty, sometimes the best thing to do is leave — a person, a place, a conversation, or whatever is at hand. Engage quickly in music, play, a song, a chant, or simply look at nature with fresh awareness. Watch how nature endures. Engage with children, elders, workers — whoever offers a good energy exchange. Set aside those who drain or ignore.

Learn to let go of objects, thoughts, and things that have served their time. Chase knowledge, skills, and experiences of being quiet, happy, and harmonious. Everything grows old and depreciates — replace, reform, and readjust as needed. There is nothing in this world that will stop from moving. Keep going, keep discovering. There are always paths yet to unravel — and even if a new one feels hard at first, it will feel peaceful and pleasant when chosen with intention.
