On Balance
It is one thing to have energy, and quite another to know how to balance it. Sometimes men beget their energy but know not how to balance it — and energy unbalanced can do harm. This is why, after meditation, many say that they feel a vast energy and cannot master it, that the energy runs off in a wrong direction, and not the right. So to balance the energy is as needful as to beget it. If you but waken and beget energy within the body, yet know not how to balance it, that energy may turn destroyer rather than maker, rather than creator.
And balance is asked of us everywhere — whether you meditate or do any other work. Nature is in balance; nature holds itself ever in rhythm, in balance. And would you live with nature, you too must be in balance; else you are not in your natural state. So it is the duty of a man — for we too are a part of nature — to hold himself in balance: in body, in mind, in soul, in feeling, and in every other field of life, and in the many duties we perform as beings of society. And this balance is a kind of justice. Are you not holding yourself in balance, then you are doing yourself an injustice. So balance is justice.
